My first week interning!

My first week of interning was hectic to say the least. I had several problems having clear communication between the volunteer/intern staff at Florida Hosptial. It took a lot of persistant calling and e-mailing for me to finally get put in a department. Even though Case Management was not what I had requested, it is where I got assigned. When I showed up the first day, they did not even know I was coming. They did not know what I was going to be doing, or why I was even there. We had to sit down in the conference room and talk about what I expected from this internship and what I wanted to contribute. I layed out that I wanted to walk away from the internship having a better crasp of how a administrator or manager deals and solves every day problems they are faced with. They told me being in case management I would get a feeling for that, and I have. I have been able to make the medicare runs through the entire hospital for the patients that are to be released within the next 24 hours. Doing this I have been able to meet ALL the Case Managers in the entire hospital that I now see everyday. I was also invited to the Case Manager meeting on my second day and got to see the different companies/ or health facilities that try to sell themselves in hopes that the case managers might use them in the future when they release a patient. Overall, my first week has been very enlightening and I am excited to see what this semester will bring.
